Did you know that regular cotton shirts do not provide adequate protection from the sun?
k&j sunprotective t-shirts were created by a dermatologist mom with fashion and functionality in mind. These 100% cotton graphic tees are designed for everyday use and block out 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays, without the addition of any chemicals.
This product was founded on the following premises:
1. Sun protection should begin at birth
, however sunscreen should not be used until after 6 months of age—making the first few months of life an ideal time for sun protective clothing.
2. One blistering or five non-blistering childhood sunburns double the lifetime risk of developing melanoma
, a potentially fatal form of skin cancer.
3. The development of skin cancer has been linked to both intensive
(beach, pool) and non-intensive
(daily outdoor activities such as playing in the backyard or at the park) sun exposure
. In fact the sun’s harmful UV rays can come through the windows in your home or car!
4. Standard cotton tees do not provide adequate protection from the sun
during daily play or time at the beach.
Rest assured your children will be sun-safe and stylish if they wear k&j shirts!
k&j -- where hip meets health!
Dr. Mona Gohara is the co-founder of k&j sunprotective clothing
. After finishing her internship at the New York University Medical Center, she went on to complete her dermatology training at Yale New Haven Hospital. Mona joined a private practice in Danbury, Connecticut, but still has a faculty appointment at Yale where she continues to see patients, and teach residents/medical students.
Mona and her husband Kiran, have two young boys, Kiran and Jai (hence the name of the company!). Besides mothering and doctoring, Mona spends time educating the public on skin cancer, skin cancer in people of color, and sun protection. She has done this through lecturing on the local and national level, through popular media, and also by planning community skin cancer screenings.
Another extra curricular? Style! It was therefore integral in the creation of k&j shirts that fashion and function were equal shareholders!
